Jerez, Zacatca 1836 Baptism records

Por andrews90032 | 8:25 PM MST, Lun Mayo 09, 2011

Hello Everyone,
I am researching my family currently from the Jerez Baptism records for 1836. I have noticed a large amount of record with no grandparents listed. Instead, it says "abuelos no dio rason". I've only seen this so far in the Jerez records but don't know what it means since it's on so many records.

Hope someone can tell me what that means??

Thanks,

Barbara keep in mind people moved around a lot to work and they were not always
there so the witnesses had to answer questions.  If they were not from the
original town they would not know who the grandparents were.

Thanks for your comments,,,,that makes sense. I had previously been going through the baptism records for Tepetongo, which is close by and occasionally found a padre desconosido or something like that. However, in these records for Jerez, it's very disproportionate and always refers to both set of grandparents.

Thanks,
Barbara

I have seen this mentioned all over the place different areas and time periods.
Usually it meant for one reason or another the grandparents were and are not
to be mentioned. Possibly denotes an iligitimate child, or no recognized father,
ethe possibilities are endless. I have also seen one child in a family where the
a grandparents are not mentioned whereas other children in the same family
do mention the grandparents.
