Laminating Birth Cert.

Profile picture for user Yolanda

Hi everyone it has been awhile since I have been online. We found out about a month ago my mother has colon cancer, so taking care of my parents comes first. In visiting with them one day my father told me that he found his fathers birth certificate and baptismal cert. from mexico. So my question to you is
Should I laminate it to keep it from turning yellow or do I leave it as is.

Yolanda, my prayers are with you, I'm in California on a similar journey so appreciate your situation. Now sounds like a perfect time to share memories and stories from your parents about the things in their history they may have never told you about before. I'm finding my Dad is recalling all kinds of things in the month I've been with him. I thought he'd told me everything before since I've asked for years but now those old memories of his grandparents and parents seem to be coming back to him. His memories make him smile so it's a good thing for him too.

Be sure to photograph the records for your files so you always have a copy of the original. Marge sounds right about keeping it in an acid free folder.

I would ask a photo archivist. I think laminating it would be a
BIIIIIIG mistake. It needs to be kept in an acid free archival type
folder, etc., so a photo archivist would be best to ask. Marge:)
