Baptimal Record Format

Does anyone know if all the baptims are required to include the pat. and mat. grandparent's names? Or did it just depend on the preist. Ive only seen 1800's baptisms and always include parents, pat. and mat. grandparents and padrinos. But since Im trying to connect my Diaz de Tiscareno line back to Lope Ruiz de Esparza, im going to order the necessary baptisms records for Nicolas Diaz de Tiscareno's children some in Cienega de MAta, Jalisco, and some in Aguas. Aguas. He was born around 1705 in Aguas. Thanks to Margie Esparza I have a possible link to Lope from Nicolas Diaz de Tiscareno, but I need to prove it first. Thats why im hoping the baptisms include the grandparents' names as well. -Daniel Mendez del cAmino

Hi Daniel,

I've been through all the baptismal records from Parroquia del Sagrario de Aguascalientes (1701-1719) included in LDS microfilm No. 299424. I wish I could tell you otherwise, but none of the baptismal records from that period include paternal or maternal grandparents. You only have that luxury in the 19th century. The early 18th century records only include parents and godparents (padres y padrinos).

>From the film mentioned above I extracted baptismal information for most "españoles" baptized during the 1701-1719 time period. About 130 children in 1707, so multiply 130 children times 19 years and you get a grand total of about 2470 baptisms for that period. However, I didn't find a Nicolas Diaz Tiscareño among them.

Send me the names and other info. of your last known Diaz Tiscareño ancestors (properly documented) who lived in the early or mid-18th century, and I'll try to find the connection in my database. I now have 7244 individuals (I just checked the statistics) most of them connected into one huge family tree from Aguascalientes, Zacatecas and Altos de Jalisco.

Rgds,

Bill Figueroa
