Land deeds, and Birth records...

Por V.Q.C. | 10:44 AM MST, Lun Agosto 01, 2011

In my family there are various stories of how ancestors had much land and cattle, and my grandfathers talk about their ancestors' land deeds on property (los papeles de los terrenos), or even sometimes on houses (papeles de la casa). I was wondering if one could acquire copies of these deeds, probably from the government building at the municipal seat?

And also in official birth records, not baptisms, parent's signatures are on them. Is there a way to get a copy of these too? I have been intrigued to know that my great-grandfather Fabián Castro signed his name on my grandfather's original birth record. How long ago were these goverment records required?

Thanks,
Valente.

Land deeds, and Birth records...

You can usually find these types of documents in the Ayuntamiento of the city or Notarias
for more modern cases possibly post 1865 with the reforms. For older cases the Archdiocesis
examples like Archdiocesis of Guadalajara under Tierra y Aguas.

I recently found out my mother's ancestor Pedro de Oviedo owned Hacienda La Labor (32.000 hectareas)
near Calvillo, Ags. From 1838 to the 1890s when they sold it. He had bought it for 20,000 pesos, at the same
time he bought from the Lopez Pimentel the Casa del Vinculo, which is used today as the government building
of Aguascalientes. The family sold it to the government sometime after 1850.

Stuff is out there you just need to hunt it down. I recently realized genealogy is not diffucult it just takes
time to build its momentum and patience.
