Copying Equipment

Por gnzlzspd | 10:50 AM MST, Mar Abril 18, 2006

Joseph:

The equipemt being used at the Murrieta, Ca. Family History Center is:
Canon Microfilm Scanner 300, coupled to an HP compaq computer with an HP Laser Jet 1320 Printer.
Almost any PC can be used, including laptops. A memmory stick or a CD can be used to take the records home and viewing them at your leisure on your own PC.

I was told that the same equipment is available at quite a few of the FHC's

Microfilm Equipment

John:

There are two machines in the Washington DC (Kensington, MD) FHC. One is the old analog type like the one that Joseph describes and the other is the one that you describe.

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to make ANY adjustments to the quality of the scan once the scanner feeds it to the PC nor to save scanned images. The scan automatically gets sent to the printer.

I will bring up this privilege which you have with my local FHC because I would much rather have scans than printouts anyhow. That is why I switched to the use of a digital camera.

Microfilm Equipment

The local FHC is very small and the people there are very friendly and
helpful. They go out of their way to assist the researchers in any way they
can. I have a great working relationship with them.
I wish you good luck and hope you can convince somebody there to make
improvements. You got to talk very nice to the right people.

Copying Equipment

thanks John.

I'll pass on my equipment purchase request to my FHC. I know that the
two FHC close to me don't have that kind of set up. We just have a
viewer that you roll the film onto and it has these marks on the screen.
Anything within those marks will be copied when you click on the button.
There are two lenses so you can make the image larger or smaller with
some adjustment larger/smaller on each individual lense as well.

thanks,

joseph
